history. He is also considered as one of the greats of the global
Modernist movement. Niemeyer attended the National
School of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro in 1929, graduating
in 1934. He began working with the influential Brazilian
architect and urban planner, Lúcio Costa . In his entire
career spanning almost eight decades, he designed about
500 buildings scattered around the world. In an exclusive
interview with ArchDaily before his death in 2012, Niemeyer
described his process as ‘always searching for beautiful,
expressive, different and surprising solutions.’
